Institutional

  1. Why should I study in FMAU?
    As the second oldest medical school in Indonesia, FMAU has long experience in medical education. In addition to the International curriculum standards provided by World Federation for Medical Education (2003), FMAU implements Indonesian competency-based curriculum so that the graduates ready to work professionally in all countries.
  2. What kind of basic competencies could I gain from FMAU as general practitioner?
    Starting from the beginning of the semester, students are trained using Learning Skill, Evidence-Based Learning (EBL) and Research module so that graduates become accustomed to think scientifically. After completing the study at FMAU, The graduates are expected to have competence to provide promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative care both at the individual, families and society level comprehensively and holistically. The graduates are also expected to have the privilege in the field of natural disaster management, to deal with tropical diseases, and to do research in the area of basic, clinical, and community medicine, which are our special programs
  3. What degree will I get from the international program?
    After completing academic program (7 semesters) and the professional program (3 semesters), graduates will achieve medical doctor degree. To get a medical license, they have to do internship program in the country where they will work. 
  4. How long does the total time required to complete medical education in FMAU?
    The curriculum is divided into academic stage (Bachelor Degree Program), which can be taken for 7 semesters, and the professional stage (Professional Degree Program), which can be taken for 3 semester
  5. Is there a time limit for the period of study?
    Yes.  Academic programs must be completed within 13 semesters, while the professional program must be completed within 6 semesters
Admission
  1. When does the international program begin?
    September of each year
  2. Where can I get the information about the international program, admission requirements, application form, and related materials?
    You can grab it in our website www.int.fk.unair.ac.id or for further details please don’t hesitate to contact us.
  3. How could I apply to this international program?
    (Please see the registration section).
    You can register through on-line system starting from the date of  June 13  until  July 1, 2011


Please follow these steps:

  1. Fill out the application form and provide other necessary documents
  2. Pay the registration fee
  3. Submit application form (on-line submission) by July 1, 2011
  4. Please bring the necessary documents on June 30 until July 2, 2011
  5. Entrance examination will be held or in the Airlangga University, Surabaya or in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on July 10, 2011.
  6. Announcement of the exam results can be viewed on-line about two weeks after the test
  7. The prospective students are expected to conduct re-registration in FMAU and bring necessary documents (see documents required) in August , 2011
  8. The class will begin in September 2011
  9. I cannot join the test on the scheduled date; can I have the test on another day?
    We recommend that you follow the exam schedule in accordance with the established. 
  10. What kind of English proficiency certificate should I have to apply the program?
    TOEFL or IELTS is acceptable.
  11. Is there any specific qualification concerning student's high school GPA to apply the program? If yes, then how is the minimum achievement should I have?
    The minimum score is 3 or A level graduates in Commonwealth Countries majoring in science
  12. Will I need to update my immunization information?
    Yes. It would be better if you are already immunized for tuberculosis and hepatitis. You should consult to your travel health doctor for further advices.
  13. Do I have to do pre-university course?
    The Pre-University Course is included in your own system in your country, after then there is eligible to directly apply to this program and do not need Pre-University in Indonesia.

Financial

  1. When should I pay the registration fee?
    You must pay the registration fee before filling the registration form
  2. When should I pay the admission and first year tuition fee?
    Admission fee and tuition fee must be paid upon re-registration of the prospective student (in August 2011)
  3. Is there any scholarship in the international program?
    No. at this moment there is no university scholarship available for this program
  4. Do I need to pay extra for laboratory work?
    No. you don’t need to pay anything else, except it is for your own expenses


Health status and Health Insurance

  1. Are there any specific health status that is not alowed to be a student in this program?
    YES. The color blindness, either partial or total, is absolutely rejected
  2. Is health insurance required by the student?
    Yes, It is recommended that any prospective students have health insurance before their arrival in Indonesia. Although the university does not cover health insurance, but we will help to provide information on health insurance providers




Facilities

  1. Where do the classes for international program take place?
    Academic program will be held on the campus of FMAU, while professional program will be conducted in Teaching Hospital located near the campus.
  2. How many students are there in one class?
    About 30 students for the year of 2011
  3. Will lectures be given in English?
    Yes. All lectures will be presented in English.
  4. Is there free Wi-Fi available?
    Yes. There is free Wi-Fi available on campus area.

Students’ Activities

  1. Are there any student clubs or student organizations in FMAU?
    There are student organizations such as the field of research, environmentalists, journalism, photography, biking club, etc. We have student center that is the place for the “base camp” of the organization itself.


Social Living

  1. How is culture in Surabaya?
    Surabaya is one of biggest city in Indonesia, has an area of 374.36 Km2 and population about 3,5 million inhabitants. It consists of many ethnics, religion and socio-economics.
  2. How about the food in Surabaya?
    Generally food in Surabaya is spicy but don’t worries if you don’t appropriate you’ll find many kind of food in Surabaya, i.e.: American food, Japanese food, Chinese food, Arabic food, Thai-food etc.
  3. Can I use my current number used in my country or I have to change it?
    You can still use your own number, but new number that you buy in Indonesia will be very helpful, you can call cheaper to anyone in Surabaya/Indonesia or even abroad connection


Hostel and Other Accommodation

  1. Where could I stay? Dormitory, apartment or student hostel?
    There is no university’s dormitory available at this moment, but you can easily find rental houses/room around campus area. We will assist you to find the place.
  2. Are those places near by the market place?
    Yes, they are. You can find a lot of market place whether traditional or modern market.
  3. How much is the living cost in Surabaya?
    In a month, the living cost approximately 1-3 million rupiahs (100-300 US dollar)


College Outfit

  1. What kind of suitable outfit could I wear during study?
    You can not wear t-shirt sleeveless top, and sandals. You have to wear collared shirt, also no mini skirt. For the academicals study, you can wear fine jeans, but no jeans for professional study.


Indonesia’s Permission

  1. How could I manage my visa and stay permit in Indonesia?
    Visa and stay permit will be arranged collectively by FMAU, you also can consult to Indonesian embassy in your country
